How old can I be to enjoy a tandem flight?
Age doesn’t matter. As long as you are fit and can take a few quick steps in the terrain, nothing stands in the way of a tandem flight. Our oldest passenger so far was 90 years young and would fly again in a heartbeat.
How old do I have to be at least?
There is no legal age limit for passengers. We fly with our younger guests from a weight of 20 kg, for children and young people up to the age of 18 the signature of a parent or legal guardian is required on the flight ticket. Many of our guests are under 18, our youngest passenger was four years old and as you can see in the photo gallery, everyone had a great time.
How heavy can I be?
We fly with passengers from 20 kg to 120 kg.
Do I have to be sporty?
If you can take a few quick steps and have no serious limitations or chronic illnesses, nothing stands in the way of a tandem flight. If you have a heart condition or other impairments, the pilot must be informed BEFORE the flight.
I am afraid of heights: can I still fly with you?
No problem: many pilots know the feeling of fear of heights. The feeling of looking down from a tower or the edge of a cliff and being pulled downwards. With a paraglider, this fear is blown away. As soon as you lose contact with the ground and sit in the harness, the fear of falling disappears and you can enjoy the feeling of flying.
Is the tandem flight insured?
Yes. Our pilots all have insurance.
example:
DHV (German Hang Glider Association), which works together with HDI. Aviation liability and passenger liability insurance was taken out here.
- Sum insured for personal injury and property damage: € 2,500,000
- Financial loss insurance per claim: € 15,000
- Rescue costs insurance per rescue case (personal): 10.000 €
How long does a tandem flight take?
We take off with the paraglider from the most beautiful Carinthian mountains and are therefore dependent on the weather. A gliding flight from the Gerlitzen takes about 20 minutes. In good thermal conditions, our pilots will use the updraft to gain height and extend the flight to 30 to 40 minutes. You should allow 1.5 hours for one flight (ascent, preparation, take-off, flight and landing).
Can I control the paraglider myself?
If you want to take the controls yourself during the flight, just ask our pilot. If the conditions allow it, you can fly a few circles over Lake Ossiach yourself.
How do you land with a tandem paraglider?
Your pilot will fly into position over the landing area to reduce the remaining altitude. He will then steer the paraglider in a fixed landing approach. Shortly before touching down, the speed will be slowed down so that you may have to take a few quick steps. The more headwind there is, the slower and smoother the landing will be.
Can I take photos or film during the flight?
Of course you can document your flight yourself with your own camera. However, some passengers are so busy with this that they don’t notice much of the actual experience. Tandem-Air therefore offers you a photo service with video and photo recordings during the flight for €29 (directly to your smart phone).
Can I fly with friends or family members at the same time?
The tandem air team consists of fourteen regular pilots, who are supported by other experienced pilots at peak times. For groups, please register in good time – we also have group discounts for you!
Are glasses or contact lenses a problem when paragliding?
No, you can wear your optical glasses or contact lenses as normal, but we also recommend sunglasses as the wind at around 35 km/h and the sun can be annoying.
When is the best time of year to fly?
Most passengers find it most pleasant in the warmer seasons. Then the landscape is also very attractive and colorful: lush forests, deep blue lakes…
Is paragliding dangerous?
Tandem-Air has not had an accident since it was founded in 2000 – something we are very proud of! The paraglider has developed into a safe flying device over the last few decades. Only uncomplicated, very safe gliders are used for tandem paragliding flights. As with all sports, there is a certain residual risk. Injuries (sprains, bruises) can occur during take-off or landing.
How long is my voucher valid for?
Tandem-Air vouchers are valid for 2 years from the date of issue and receipt of the invoice amount. For more details see our general terms and conditions.
Is my voucher transferable?
Tandem Air vouchers are not name-bound and are therefore transferable. However, you will miss out on the opportunity to experience the indescribable feeling of silent flying.
What is an action flight and can I book it with you?
During an action flight, maneuvers are mainly flown over the lake. Here, significantly more forces act on your body and the flight time is reduced, as height is destroyed in a shorter time during the maneuvers.
This is probably the right flight for all adrenaline junkies.
The flight costs nothing extra, just book a normal flight and discuss your wishes with your pilot beforehand.
Does it cost extra if I want to book an action flight?
No – there is no surcharge for action flights.
Do you also fly thermals?
If the weather permits, we will also try to stay in the thermals.
This will make your flight a little longer, but it won’t cost you anything extra.
Does a thermal flight cost extra?
No – with Tandem-Air no thermal flight costs extra.
However, please bear in mind that your flight time may be slightly longer as a result.
